Day 50 - 10 Aug - Ottawa

Day 50 - 10 Aug - Ottawa - 158kms

Another long day today. It's a good thing there are only two more long days left! I find them so tiring.
We did have beautiful weather today, not too hot and no wind.
The first part of the route took us on the 1000 islands parkway. There is an 18 km path dedicated for cycling which is parallel to the road and the water. We got to take in the view of all the little islands and be safe at the same time!
The small towns of Mallorytown, Merrickville, and Kempville had interesting main streets where  I stopped and had coffee and lunch.
The route was very scenic along the Rideau river. There were boats going through the lock system.
I am familiar with the area as I've lived he Ottawa for many years but, I have never ridden that far out of town. It is a very different experience cycling that route as opposed to driving it.

Our route map had us taking the bike paths through Ottawa instead of the busy roads. We arrived at Carleton University via Colonel By on the canal.
Rest day tomorrow! Looking forward to sleeping in a bed for two nights!

  1. Sounds great Emily - it's wonderful when you can feel safe on a cycling path and enjoy the scenery like that.
