Day 21 - 12 July - Regina - Rest Day

Day 21 - 12 July - Regina- Rest Day    Finally, the rest day is here! This six day stretch of riding has been tough! The wind has died down and it has warmed up.     We spent the day replenishing supplies, doing laundry, and cleaning our bikes.  We did not do any sight seeing this rest day because we were in a camp ground away from the city.    But five of us did go and have a massage! My calfs were killing me! It hurt so much he made me cry! I must admit they do feel better. I hope so because we'll be riding 164kms tomorrow.

Day 17 - 8 July - Kindersley

Day 17 - 8 July - Kindersley - 149km    Oh my God what a day! The wind was in our faces the entire day! We were 12 hours on the bikes. Sometimes it felt like we were standing still! It was also very warm. I think they are having a little heat wave here. And, it was hilly! I thought Saskatchewan was supposed to be flat!    We crossed the border into Saskatchewan at km 88. Another province done! Goodbye Alberta!     We have another long day tomorrow 154kms to outlook!

Day 19 - 10 July- Craik

Day 19 - 10 July - Craik - 119km     Super windy and hot again! It took forever to get to camp! I usually ride 20k and take a break. I managed to do that twice and then it dropped to ten, and eventually it dropped to every five K! I couldn't believe there was a huge climb at the end of the ride! Not  cool!    The sun was so hot, I got a sunburn on my fingers! I'll have to remember to reapply sunscreen after I wash my hands!    The campsite was on the lovely South Saskatchewan river. It is a popular swimming place.    I didn't get much sleep last night. We had a huge thunderstorm around midnight. As if that wasn't enough, a pair of cats decided to fight in the bushes outside of our tents! Oh yes, the air in my mattress slowly leaked out so I was on the ground by morning! Not a good night.

Day 20 - 11 July - Regina

Day 20 - 11 July - Regina 119km    What a difference a day makes! The wind changed direction and was at our backs most of the day. The temperature was  cool. That made a big difference! This is the first day over 100k where I made it to camp under 8 hours! Yeah me!    We did have a bit of excitement, an RCMP officer stopped us on the highway. A trucker called them because some of us were riding over the white line. If he had told us to get off the road, I don't know what we would have done!    This part of Saskatchewan is greener. There were lots of gently rolling hills and valleys.    The wind picked up and it made it difficult for the galley crew to make dinner. We had to drag the picnic tables over to the truck to block the wind! It made eating dinner difficult!    Rest day tomorrow! I can't believe we are in Regina already!

Day 18 - 9 July - Outlook

Day 18 - 9 July -  Outlook - 154km    A decidedly better day! It was stinking hot but, there was little or no wind.    This province is so wide open. There are so many huge farms and they all look the same! It doesn't make for an exciting bike ride! I'd take a few pictures but, they would all be the same!     Maybe something exciting will happen!

Day 15 - 6 July - Drumheller - Rest Day

Day 15 - 6 July - Drumheller - Rest day    We spent a relaxing day amongst all the dinosaurs. A trip to the Royal Tyrell Museum was a must see. The weather was hot but we walked the  5 kms to museum. It was worth the walk! There some very cool stuff on display. I especially liked the trails around the museum. The badlands is a special place.      I met Val and David's daughter, Katherine, for lunch! As it turned out, she happened to see me riding up a hill where she lives the day before ! How about that for amazing!    On to Youngstown tomorrow, 145kms. We have been invited to a community potluck! It should be good!

Day 16 - 7 July - Youngstown - 145km

Day 16 - 7 July - Youngstown - 145km     Today's ride was particularly difficult! The temperature got to 34 degrees and we had a strong head wind. I don't think I made it past 15kms per hour all day! As if the sun beating down on me wasn't enough, the heat radiating up from the Tarmac did! I arrived in Youngstown 10 hours after we left Drumheller.    I was was done in, but to my amazement, we were welcomed by the residents! For 29 years the residents have been hosting a potluck for the Tour de Canada participants. It was very unexpected and      wonderful! It was just like the kitchen party we went to in Newfoundland, minus the music!    If that isn't enough, we get to sleep in the community centre! How awesome is that! No setting up the tent and no bugs!    I'm on kitchen duty tomorrow and we get to cook breakfast inside! A rare treat.   We have another long day to Saskatchewan tomorrow and this will be a good ...
